１０月の授業は最終日。園児たちが待ちに待ったハロウィーンです！先生も含め、みんな自分の好きなキャラクターや動物になりきってHKにやってきました。たまたま衣装が被ったり、キャラクターのシリーズが揃ったり、笑いの多い朝を楽しみました。午前中は、みんなで元町ショッピングストリートをパレードして記念撮影をしました。すれ違う人に”Happy Halloween!”と挨拶。午後はゲームやハロウィーンテーマの歌を歌ったりとパーティーを開催しました。来年もハロウィーンが楽しみです。

It’s Halloween! One of the long-awaited events for our students. We had a very exciting morning talking with everybody about what they are dressed as. Brothers and sister, friends, and teachers all wore their favorite costume for the day. We strolled down Motomachi shopping street in the morning saying, “Happy Halloween” and had a party in the afternoon. Looking forward to next year already!!

昨年同様、台風の影響を受けた運動会ですが今年は１日だけの延期で開催することができました。「密」を避けるためにも、数年ぶりの屋外開催でした。天候にも比較的恵まれ、気持ちいい空気の中での開放的な運動会でした。 Red team（紅組）とWhite team（白組）に分かれ、家族と一緒に行ったラジオ体操とダンスとから始め、様々な種目をこなしました。屋外での開催を活かし、水を使った種目や、会場を広く使った種目、綱引きの代わりに家族と楽しめるイベントを行いました。 例年とは形式が変わった運動会でしたが、非常に中身の濃い運動会になりました。最後はバーチ校長からメダルをもらって、全員で記念撮影をしました。

Yet again, the typhoon has prevented us from holding our Sports Day from the intended date, but we were able to postpone only a day. Due to the pandemic, we held our events outdoors, the first in several years for HK. It was a pleasant autumn day with just enough sunshine and fresh air. The students were divided into Red and White teams and performed in their events. We took advantage of the outdoor with events using water and the wide area. We also tried different family-friendly events aside from our regular Tug-o-war. We all had a great time despite the “change” from our annual events. It was a fun-filled day with medals for everybody!

夏休み（サマースクール）が明け、第２学期がスタートしました。ＨＫ元町では、Show-and-Tell（ショー・アンド・テル）というイベントを毎月どこかの水曜日で行なっています。園児が自分のお気に入りのおもちゃや本といったアイテムをＨＫへ持参し、自分の言葉や先生の助けを借りて、自分が何故それが好きなのかという説明も含めてクラスのみんなに紹介します。自分の好きなものになると、恥ずかしがり屋の子でも一生懸命説明をしてくれる事があります。また、クラスメートからも質問を受け、それに答えます。 園児が毎回違うものを持って来てくれるため、話題は尽きません。今回はTom先生がギターを持参し、みんなで歌える歌を１曲弾いてくれました！次回のShow-and-Tellが楽しみです！

Here at HK International Motomachi, we hold a Show-and-Tell session each month on a Wednesday. The children bring their favorite item to ‘show’ and ‘tell’ us what it is, what it does, and why they like it. Even the shy ones can be very eager to speak during Show-and-Tell. Our friends listen carefully and ask questions about the item. This is one of HK’s favorite events as the children bring different items every time, and every one of them is interesting to us! We had a treat in this month’s Show-and-Tell as Tom brought his guitar, and we all got to sing a song together! We all look forward to the nest Show-and-Tell.

2019も残りわずかとなり、クリスマスが近づいてきました。HK元町では、今年度もみんなドレスアップをしてクリスマスパーティーを行いました。Owlクラスのウェルカムスピーチの後、大きいクラスの園児が”Twelve Days of Christmas”を披露しました。小さいクラスは寒い冬に備えて、「厚着早着替え競争」をしてたくさんの笑顔をもらいました。歌とゲームのあとはみんなで”Santa Claus is Coming to Town”を歌って、ご飯の時間になりました。お昼ご飯も終わり、パーティーもそろそろ終わりというところでサンタがサプライズ登場！忙しい中駆けつけてくれたサンタからプレゼントをもらい、一人ずつサンタとお話をして記念撮影をしました。来年も来てもらえますように！Be good, so Santa can visit again next year!

Christmas is here and we are on our final week of school for 2019. Today was our Christmas Party and everybody was in their Sunday best. The Owl class delivered their welcoming speech and performed Twelve Days of Christmas. The little classes played games and had a great time. Then the two groups came together and sang Santa Claus is Coming to Town. As the party came to a close, we had a surprise visit from Santa himself! Every student had a moment with Santa and received gifts and we all took a picture together. Be good, so Santa can visit again next year!

台風の影響で延期されていた運動会をついに開催することができました。延期のおかげで園児たちの準備は十分すぎるくらい万全！Red team（紅組）とWhite team（白組）に分かれ、ダンスと準備運動から始め、小さいクラスと大きいクラス別に種目をこなしました。 クラス別での種目後には本格的に”Red teamとWhite team”での競技を行いました。『紅』対『白』の綱引きのあとは『園児』対『先生』、そして『HK』対『家族』でした。来年は負けません！綱引きが終わったら玉入れと、クラス別でのかけっこで締めました。一発勝負での競争にみんな力が入っていました。最後はバーチ校長からメダルをもらって、全員で記念撮影をしました。

The typhoon forced us to postpone our favorite Sports Day but it’s finally here! Everybody is more than ready this year. We split into Red team and White team and started off with a dance and warmup events. The big kids and little kids took their turns with their class events and moved on to the main team event, Tug-o-war!! After a tied Red vs White, we had students against teachers, then HK vs Families. The last two events were Red and White Basketball and Races. The kids had only one shot to make their runs count. It was a fun-filled day with medals for everybody.

10 月もついに最終日。園児たちが待ちに待ったハロウィーンです！それぞれが自分の好きなキャラクターや動物になりきってHKにやってきました。友達同士、兄弟・姉妹、先生たちみんなが自分の着たいコスチュームで現れました。ペアルックやたまたま揃った変装などでいつもと違う朝を全員で楽しみました。午前中はみんなで元町ショッピングストリートをパレードして記念撮影をしました。すれ違う人に”Happy Halloween!”と挨拶。午後は保護者の方々もパーティーに参加して、園児たちはゲームや塗り絵を楽しみました。帰る前には、ハロウィーン恒例の”Trick or treat!”と唱えてお菓子をもらって帰りました。

The students concluded the day saying, “Trick or treat!” to the teachers and then went on to do their Trick or Treat runs for the year.

HK 元町の９月のテーマは『職業』と『制服』でした。社会ではどんな人がどんな仕事をしているのかを学んだ月でした。社会勉強と一環として、毎年お世話になっている加賀町警察署元町交番を見学しました。おまわりさんの警棒やさすまたを見せてもらったあとは、警察官の仕事内容の説明や日常からみんなに心がけてほしいことの話を受けました。最後は見学のために駆けつけてくれたパトカーの前で記念写真を撮りました。10月初旬は『職業』のテーマを続け、園児と保護者で横浜市民防災センターを訪問しました。HK元町としては今回が初めての訪問です。施設では、救急車両の塗り絵や防災マップのパネルなどをそれぞれが自分の好きなように見て触れる事から始まりました。それから大きいクラスと小さいクラスに分かれ、それぞれのグループで防災に関する説明を受けました。保護者と一緒に、消火器モデルを使った擬似消火体験や煙からの避難体験も行いました。また、「減災ルーム」では台風や地震など、ランダムに選ばれた災害から適した避難や減災の方法を学びました。大きいクラスは地震シミュレーターで過去や今後起こると予想される地震を体験しました。

It’s The theme for the month of September was “occupation” and “uniforms.” The kids visited the police box near HK to learn about what police officers do and were reminded of things they should watch out for in our daily lives. We also took pictures with a police car that they brought for the occasion! We continued our “occupation” theme into early October and visited the Yokohama-city Disaster Prevention Center. This was our first visit to the facility. The students spent time learning how to read hazard maps and coloring pictures of fire trucks. Then we separated into two groups of older students and our little ones. They experienced fire extinguishing exercises and escaping smoke with their parents. We also went through simulations of how to protect ourselves from random natural disasters as typhoons and earthquakes. The older students also went on the earthquake simulator to experience past disaster quakes and expected quakes.
