In April we studied our bodies and since we know head, shoulders, knees, and toes pretty well we started learning about some internal organs. That is, things inside we cannot see like our heart, lungs, liver, stomach and intestines. We made aprons that give us an X-ray view of those body parts and we took some pictures.
Our recent Sports Days had to be rescheduled due to inclement weather but we were lucky this year to have such beautiful autumn weather. Being able to do it on a Sunday meant more family members, and the kids were very energetic.
The Owl and Rabbit classes had a “Sponge Race” where both teams raced to fill their jars with water and be the first to top it off. The Tigger, Piglet, and Roo classes competed in the “I Found It!” game, where they raced to find and bring back a toy specified by an item card given by the teacher. The children also danced, participated in “Red and White basketball,” and ran their races using the large field.
Everyone received their medals at the end of the event. It was a great field day full of joy and smiles.
On October 18 we held our Sports Day for 2021 at the Peverley Place ground of St. Maur International School. It was a little windy but turned out to be a beautiful morning.
After opening speeches, we did the Radio Exercises in English with our families and then performed a special dance that we had been practicing since the beginning of September. Our parents said we did a good job!
Our games included a giant Tic-tac-toe game by the Owl/Rabbit Classes, the Penguin Race by the Tigger/Piglet/Roo Classes, and finally everybody participated in the Red & White Basketball game.
The final events were the races: straight races, and the oval race with the Owls and Rabbits. Everyone got a medal because the score of the teams Red and White were so very close. Our last task was to take a huge photograph with everyone!
It was a really fun day, and we are already looking forward to next year!
Our Halloween celebration has developed a routine that we follow every year, and even during the Pandemic we have been lucky enough to continue to celebrate in much the same way.
First, we ALL wear costumes, students and teachers! It’s so much fun to see what everyone looks like and it makes us feel festive from the very start of the day.
Next, if the weather is fine – and it usually is! – we take a walk about halfway down the Motomachi Shopping Street at around 11:00 a.m. saying, “Happy Halloween!” and waving to everyone we meet or pass in the street. It’s a kind of Halloween Parade and many people wave back and say, “Happy Halloween” to us, too.
After our parade we head back to HK and if there is time, we have a circle meeting with everyone and soon it is time for lunch. After lunch we play Halloween games, watch Halloween cartoons in English, and best of all – we have Trick-or-Treat! It’s everyone’s favorite day in fall.
It’s Halloween! One of the long-awaited events for our students. We had a very exciting morning talking with everybody about what they are dressed as. Brothers and sister, friends, and teachers all wore their favorite costume for the day. We strolled down Motomachi shopping street in the morning saying, “Happy Halloween” and had a party in the afternoon. Looking forward to next year already!!
Yet again, the typhoon has prevented us from holding our Sports Day from the intended date, but we were able to postpone only a day. Due to the pandemic, we held our events outdoors, the first in several years for HK. It was a pleasant autumn day with just enough sunshine and fresh air. The students were divided into Red and White teams and performed in their events. We took advantage of the outdoor with events using water and the wide area. We also tried different family-friendly events aside from our regular Tug-o-war. We all had a great time despite the “change” from our annual events. It was a fun-filled day with medals for everybody!
Here at HK International Motomachi, we hold a Show-and-Tell session each month on a Wednesday. The children bring their favorite item to ‘show’ and ‘tell’ us what it is, what it does, and why they like it. Even the shy ones can be very eager to speak during Show-and-Tell. Our friends listen carefully and ask questions about the item. This is one of HK’s favorite events as the children bring different items every time, and every one of them is interesting to us! We had a treat in this month’s Show-and-Tell as Tom brought his guitar, and we all got to sing a song together! We all look forward to the nest Show-and-Tell.
Santa Claus is Coming to Town”を歌って、ご飯の時間になりました。 Be good, so Santa can visit again next year!
Christmas is here and we are on our final week of school for 2019. Today was our Christmas Party and everybody was in their Sunday best. The Owl class delivered their welcoming speech and performed Twelve Days of Christmas. The little classes played games and had a great time. Then the two groups came together and sang Santa Claus is Coming to Town. As the party came to a close, we had a surprise visit from Santa himself! Every student had a moment with Santa and received gifts and we all took a picture together. Be good, so Santa can visit again next year!
The typhoon forced us to postpone our favorite Sports Day but it’s finally here! Everybody is more than ready this year. We split into Red team and White team and started off with a dance and warmup events. The big kids and little kids took their turns with their class events and moved on to the main team event, Tug-o-war!! After a tied Red vs White, we had students against teachers, then HK vs Families. The last two events were Red and White Basketball and Races. The kids had only one shot to make their runs count. It was a fun-filled day with medals for everybody.
